Why Heroes Are Always Needed

Uplifting Heroes Inc. is a non-profit corporation founded with the sole purpose of being a healthy, emotional outlet that encourages long lasting results to our heroes, providing enhanced supervision to those who need it most! By allowing participants to meet others with similar lifestyles, they are surrounded by a sense of achievement, instilling confidence, as well as ensuring them that this environment is a safe space to better themselves, be social and to build friendships. All that are involved help guide every aspect in the research benefits of this program. The Special Olympics motto is, "Let me win, but if I cannot win, let me brave in the attempt." This motto is what Uplifting Heroes Inc. wants to continue to encourage by giving individuals all the tools needed for success, to change and better the lives of those who are unable to on their own, and to build community outreach.

Meet Andre

Andre joined the staff of the Milford Special Olympics Powerlifting team in the spring of 2016 after competing at the 1st Annual Milford Special Olympics Push & Pull Competition. Andre is an avid weightlifter and an individual who brings with him a wealth of knowledge about the many intricacies of the sport. As a competitive powerlifter himself, Andre works closely with our most advanced lifters by helping them perfect their form and adopt the appropriate mental psyche required to maximize one's performance. In addition to coaching the Powerlifting Team, Andre is also a coach with Milford's Special Olympics Flag Football Team.

Over the years in his career, Andre Aureliano has been able to guide and provide opportunities to individuals with intellectual disabilities in the greater New England Area where they would compete in the sport of powerlifting. Although the main focus was developing the skills of athletes, Andre made sure there was also a strong emphasis on having fun, developing healthy fitness habits, and, most importantly, developing an unmatched sense of belonging and confidence, by ensuring a social aspect to let individuals gain a sense of achievement. What set Andre apart, after being involved in the Special Olympics program for so long, was that he wanted to go a step further because seeing the changes he was making in their lives was so inspiring and fulfilling.
